RefLectionS @ AGA KHAN MUSEUM
This piece is created with love by American-based visual artist Kavi and inspired by the eloquent and lively music of the 1960’s and its efficacious voice for Cultural Revolution, as well as her own heritage from Bombay, India.
Kavi has developed a distinctive and experimental artistic style. Her process involves a multi-layered approach which gives her the ability to encapsulate political phrases and poetry into each of her creative pieces. Kavi works with innovative new methods in photo collage, painting, and sculpture, and her art emphasizes intense texture by incorporating three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional spaces.
Culture Canvas: An exhibition & Artist Talk, 2019-2020
Presenteur at Saks Fifth Avenue, Phoenix Arizona
With works titled “Bite the Bullet” and “Warrior and the Gypsy”, bullet casings included, Kavi explores gender dynamics, societal expectations versus individual identity, and the impact of culture on personal style. The Bombay-born, LA-raised visual artist’s newest series includes her signature photographic collaborations, modern-day ruminations on multicultural identity which first read as cryptic dreamscapes before layers of further meaning soon unfold. The Artist Talk also included Kendall Reynolds, Founder/CEO of Kendall Miles Designs, and Dennita Sewell, Head of the Fashion Department at Arizona State University, also a former fashion curator at the Phoenix Art Museum. The event included a print giveaway from the artist’s first limited edition series.
